With just a few months to go until the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games Opening, China’s capital is boiling. The centerpiece is the National Olympic Stadium nicknamed Bird Nest, due to the exterior “nest-like” appearance caused by curved steel-net walls. which enclose the stadium. This iconic architectural piece of gem , designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, is focusing the world’s eyes. Construction work began by the end of 2003 and is about to be finished. The immense structure of the stadium will hold 80,000 seats and cost more than $400 million. The "bird's nest," would open to the public for the first time in April with the International Association of Athletics Federations' Race Walking Challenge. It would then host the 2008 China Athletics Open in May before the Olympics. The stadium is scheduled to open in March 2008.
